If you’re like me, you’re a big fan of the traditional Caesar Salad. Sometimes, though, it feels like it gets a bit overdone. So…I was on the hunt for a way to update this ever-popular salad so that it’s new again, while still maintaining that great Caesar Salad satisfaction.
Hmmmmm. What to do? What to do?
Well, being that it is summer here in Los Angeles and being that I am a guy, the first thing to come to mind is to Grill it? Would it work? I mean, we are grilling lettuce here. Well, I had made soup with salad greens before which seemed counter-intuitive and it turned out great…so…why not try throwing a head of Romaine lettuce on the grill??
I am happy to report that the experiment turned out great! Even my sister, Barb, who is by all counts THE Salad Guru, loves this New Caesar Salad. She even requests it, which is huge! Not only that, my 6-foot-tall brother-in-law, Mark, has been spotted enjoying this salad. I think it’s because he can eat it with a steak knife. It really does feel like a substantial salad when you make it this way and, because of that, guys love it too. Plus, it pairs great with a steak!
A little olive oil on the Romaine lettuce is all it takes. Season with salt and pepper…and if you want to get a little crazy, squeeze a little lemon on it before you grill it. I think that adds a nice touch…especially if you prefer to dress it with just a little olive oil instead of the traditional creamy Caesar Dressing.
I can’t wait for you to try this one out. You’ll need croutons and Caesar dressing though. You can buy croutons at the store, but I think you might like the homemade variety quite a bit more: Tiny Kitchen Croutons. Also, check out the Tiny Kitchen Homemade Caesar Dressing below…a zesty spin on the classic…perfect for the New Caesar!
Enjoy! And if you make this salad, feel free to tag us in a pic on Instagram (@tinykitchenTV). I just love to see what y’all create!
